Lower Owens

The Lower Owens begins below Crowley Lake and flows for
350 miles to quench the thirst of Southern California.  Before it
winds up in the aquaduct it supports an incredible number of trout
for over  40 miles with populations reaching 7,000-9,000 fish per
mile.  The stretch of water between Crowley Lake and Pleasant
Valley Reservoir is known as the Gorge.  The vertical rock walls
provide a dramatic backdrop to some of the best fishing in the
Eastern Sierra.  The fishing in the Gorge may be great, but you
earn it.  Be sure to bring plenty of extra water for the hike out.
Below P.V.R. the river enters the wild trout section.  This area
receives the most fishing pressure on the Lower Owens and for
good reason.  The easy access and heavy hatches draws many
anglers from across the west.  The Lower Owens fishes best
during the fall, winter, and spring due to high flows in the summer
